From After-School Job to Passion: Liam's Journey to Becoming a Retail Butcher

/ Success Story
At 15, Liam turned his after-school job into a thriving butchery apprenticeship, discovering his passion for the craft.

After starting an after-school position at Floral Hill Quality Meats Liam soon realised it was an industry he wanted to pursue a career in.

I really enjoyed going in after school and cleaning so I decided to do a school based-apprenticeship.  It wasn’t long before I was offered an apprenticeship as a retail butcher. I was 15 when I started and it’s been the best decision.

I love the interactions with customers and the other staff. It’s been great that I can do my training through South West TAFE on the job and have my teacher come to Bendigo to assist with my training.

The apprenticeship has also given me the opportunity to compete in a couple of competitions which has been a valuable experience.

Working as an apprentice butcher really brings me joy and there’s always something new to learn, it’s a great industry to be a part of.
