New Hamilton cadetship program on offer

South West TAFE has partnered with Western District Health Service (WDHS) in Hamilton to offer a new cadetship program where you can combine employment and study.
This provides our nursing students with excellent learning opportunities gaining practical clinical experience and skills gained from working in a hospital environment, as well as in-class theory and practice - for better skills and understanding.

The cadetship provides:

  • Three days study for the Diploma of Nursing HLT54121 at our Hamilton Campus
  • The opportunity to be employed for two days in a WDHS aged care facility as a Cadet whilst undertaking study
  • An assured interview for an ongoing position at WDHS as an Enrolled Nurse at the completion of the course.

What you’ll study:

The Diploma of Nursing HLT54121 is made up of 25 units of study. These units cover the broad spectrum of learning required for a medication and intravenous endorsed Enrolled Nurse. You will gain the skills and knowledge required to work as a safe and competent Enrolled Nurse in any health care setting ranging from aged care to acute hospital settings. You will learn how to link your theory to practice, going from a classroom setting to the simulation lab and clinical placement. On completion of the Diploma of Nursing, you will be eligible to register with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA) which will enable you to work as an
Enrolled Nurse in Australia.
