Majd Aleas: Overcoming Challenges to Achieve His Barbering Dream

/ Success Story
After cutting hair since the age of 12, Majd Aleas is proud to have completed his apprenticeship in barbering with South West TAFE.

I completed the Certificate III in Barbering with South West TAFE while working at The Barber Project in Geelong.

This qualification means a lot to me because I didn’t speak English very well and I didn’t read and write.

I left my country of Iraq, before going to Turkey and then coming to Australia.

I started cutting hair when I was 12 years old so when I came to Australia, I wanted to do an apprenticeship to get my barbering certificate.

South West TAFE, my family and my employer all supported and encouraged me to finish my apprenticeship. It was so hard for me to finish it, but in the end I did it.

The course taught me many things including safety and how to talk to clients.

I love cutting hair because I can have a conversation with a customer and make people feel happy and good about themselves.

My career plans in the future are to improve my hair cutting, to get more experience and to help young people if they want to learn to cut hair.
