Eliza Hoy: Hospitality to Business Traineeship—Learning the Ropes of Restaurant Management

/ Success Story
After working in hospitality for many years, Eliza Hoy discovered a traineeship was the perfect way to learn more about how the business operated.

I was working at the Oak and Anchor in Port Fairy when I was offered a traineeship in business.

I was really interested in finding out more about the background of a business like this and what goes on behind the scenes, so it was the perfect opportunity for me.

I had worked in the bar and on the floor but wanted to find out more about the admin side of things and look at managing a restaurant myself one day.

I love this industry because of all of the people you get to meet. We have the restaurant and accommodation so it means I get to meet people from all over the world.

I have found the training at South West TAFE to be really good. It was easy to get in touch with my teachers, the work was always really clear and it was great to have someone I could reach out to if needed.

I’m looking at studying teaching next year, so the communication and teamwork skills I have learnt during my traineeship will help with whatever I do in the future.
