The Library Service Point is staffed throughout the hours of opening, and is the place to go for assistance and advice in making use of the wide range of information sources, and equipment available via the library.  For example staff can help you to:

  • find relevant books in the library collection (and in other nearby libraries if not available at SW TAFE)
  • find relevant journal (/magazine) articles in the library collection and / or online
  • find answers to specific reference questions
  • select the best information sources to meet your needs
  • access the Internet and SW TAFE network, and resources such as OnCourse

Assistance is available in person, or contact us by phone or by email.

Information Skills Training & Support

Sheer abundance of information and technology will not in itself create more informed citizens without a complimentary understanding and capacity to use information effectively.  (From the Australian and New Zealand Information Literacy Framework, 2004)

Information literacy is an increasingly important part of lifelong learning, and involves being able to:

  • recognise when information is needed, and determine what information is required
  • search for and access information efficiently
  • critically evaluate information
  • use information effectively to learn, solve problems and make decisions (etc.)
  • use information within ethical and legal guidelines (acknowledge the work of others, and comply with Copyright.) etc..

A range of training opportunities are available at the South West TAFE Library.
